Special Educational Needs

Christ Church is a fully inclusive school.

All pupils, regardless of any additional needs, are offered inclusive teaching which will enable them to make the best possible progress in school and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community. We offer a range of provision to support children with communication and interaction, cognition and learning difficulties, social, mental and health problems or sensory or physical needs. We believe that every child should have access to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum.

At Christ Church we work closely with a range of outside agencies, therapists and outreach services within the local authority. The role of parents and carers is very important at Christ Church. We work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that every child’s needs are met, and every opportunity is given for each child to reach their potential.

Our differentiated curriculum for pupils with SEND and our SEND provision offer is based on the 'Ordinarily Available Provision: Expectations for all Schools/Settings' (published October 2021) to ensure inclusive provision for all pupils within Christ Church.

Christ Church is a nurturing school and the staff are trained in the Trauma Informed Approach.

We are proud of the SEND provision we offer at Christ Church, which includes:

  • Nurture Principles and a Nurturing approach through the whole school
  • Sensory room
  • Dedicated outside sensory space
  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants)
  • KICK learning/sports mentor
  • Speech and language therapist
  • Literacy Support Service
  • Use of Zones of Regulation
  • PATHS curriculum
