A Note from the Headteacher

November 2018

Thank you to all parents who attended the Poetry Assembly on National Poetry Day. I am glad to report that the Diocese has agreed to fund the toilets and sensory room for 2019. Reading is a focus for this term and we have new guided reading sets for Year 2-Year 6.

LEARNING OUTDOORS

All KS2 classes went to High Ashurst on their adventurous activity trip. Next year the trips will be as follows:

Year 4 – Day visit to the centre to take part in team building activities

Year 5 – Team building activities and an overnight stay.

Year 6 – Team building activities and a two night stay.

This type of outdoor challenge gives pupils the opportunities to take part in physical challenges that test them both physically and emotionally.

All classes have been learning outside including: Year 6 visit to Horticultural Halls and the Magistrates Court; Year 4 Chelsea Physic Garden and the Museum of London; Year 2 and Year 6 to the Look Out Discovery Centre Hyde Park. At other times pupils have been learning in our own garden carrying out mathematical, scientific or other focused activities.

The PTFA CINEMA CLUB

Cinema Club will be held on the 26th November and the 5th December after school. It is open to Year 1-Year 6 and will be held in Year 3. There are 25 spaces and it is first come first served. The permission slips will be going out this week.

As many of you will know we have received a £30,000 pledge from the Mayor of London https://www.spacehive.com/dream-garden-sw11. While this is fantastic we still need to raise £3,000 to be able to access the money. If you have any further ideas for fundraising please let the PTFA know.

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

Attendance is checked every term. If you are aiming for 100% keep it up. Attendance is being monitored this term. Any pupils with attendance below 90% will be sent a letter and monitored. If attendance does not improve you will be called to an attendance panel.

All latecomers MUST sign in at the School Office using the touch screen on the wall.

Regular lateness is disruptive to your child’s education. Please ensure they are in school and on time.

LEARNING CHALLENGE COMPETITIONS

  1. How many books can you read between now and Christmas? There will be prizes for pupils who have read widely during the next five weeks.
  2. Bring in work you have done around your learning challenge question to share with your class. There will be three prizes awarded for the interest and effort pupils have put into their work.

First aid can save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major ones.

To ensure that there is adequate and appropriate first aid available, school will close at 2:00pm on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st November 2018. This is so staff can renew their First Aid training.

I appreciate your support with this.

TOGETHER WE GROW

The NHS has funded a new project in our school to look at the health benefits of being outdoors and eating well. This project will start after Christmas but before then they have asked us to complete a questionnaire with every family. Every questionnaire filled in will be entered into a raffle to win a £50 Garden Centre voucher. You can spend this on outdoor or indoor plants. We will also be holding a Coffee Morning so parents can come together and help each other fill it in.
